Over the last decade, she has shrewdly threaded her biggest headlines into her persona — although that approach has backfired along the way. Aside from a flash of her bra, the pictures are mostly tame images of a young couple snuggling on a couch. For the squeaky-clean brand of a rising Disney star, however, the snaps were the beginning of a total transformation. In the cover image, Cyrus appears to be shirtless, looking over her shoulder while holding up a satin sheet as her bare back is displayed. The Conde Nast title later took down the cover image from its website. This round of photos — bikini and midriff-baring selfies, plus a wet t-shirt shot — was intended for her then-boyfriend, up-and-coming Disney heartthrob Nick Jonas. At the time, the couple famously sported purity rings and spoke openly about their choice to abstain from sex until marriage. Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato were the new girls on the Disney block in Gomez made her Disney debut on Hannah Montana as a competing pop star before getting her own series, and her lifelong best friend Lovato was set for a leading role in the TV movie Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers. Instead of becoming a unified trio, however, Cyrus fueled rumors of bad blood by posting a video on her YouTube vlog — in which she and dancer Mandy Jiroux mocked and parodied the newcomers.

She's no stranger to controversy but Miley Cyrus has gone a step further in the video for the second offering from her album Bangerz The year-old strips off to ride a Wrecking Ball to accompany the single of the same name, and has created a short film that's more provocative than even her last boisterous hit, We Can't Stop. By James Fenner on November 2, 9 Comments. A lot has happened to Miley Cyrus within recent times. Now famous for her incessant twerking and overzealous tongue waggling, the celebrity star has stirred huge controversy across many corners of a flabbergasted America. Although this moment appeared to be the tipping point for the Wrecking Ball singer, serving as the catalyst that accelerated her ongoing celebrity descent, the process has actually been much slower and more pervasive than society perhaps realizes. As the daughter of the illustrious country music singer, Billy Ray Cyrus, she quickly found her niche in television. To put it bluntly, no sooner did she lose the diapers than she was propelled into the turbulent world of celebrity hysteria and idolization.
The year was and, yes, it did happen. The photo shoot incited a media outrage that culminated with Cyrus apologizing for disappointing her fans. Guess what? Back then, in the Vanity Fair profile accompanying the photos, Cyrus actually addressed the potential for blowback, explaining that neither she nor Disney was worried about the shoot. The tunes changed quickly, however, and both the singer and the network gave statements disparaging the magazine and positioning Cyrus as a victim of circumstance. In the years that followed, Cyrus shed her Disney image entirely and embraced her sexuality. She still seems to have a soft spot for her child star days, however, going on a throwback spree over the weekend and sharing some old photos with some very Miley captions.
