During the war a church in Strasburg, Germany, was totally destroyed; but a statue of Christ which stood by the altar was almost unharmed. Only the hands of the statue were missing. When the church was rebuilt, a famous sculptor offered to make new hands; but, after considering the matter, the members decided to let it stand as it was—without hands. My friend, if the gospel we preach does not have a social application, if it will not work effectively in the work-a-day world, then it is not the Gospel of Christ.

Who We Are
From the Old Testament prophets through Jesus himself, we are called on to give of our time and our talents and our treasure to those who have so much less than us. At Good Shepherd, we take service to the least of these our neighbors seriously. We trace our beginnings to the Oxford Movement, which had as one of its priorities Christian service — being The Hands of Christ — and today we maintain a vibrant mission ministry.
There are numerous stories in the Bible where God called men, women, and even children to step out in faith and follow him. In each instance, God was looking for those who were willing to set aside their personal comforts and interests to follow him and share in his ministry. The choice, however, was theirs. Many others, unfortunately, found the cost of discipleship too much to bear and turned back. God, however, is deeply invested in the growth and transformation of his followers, and part of that growth involves being challenged and stretched.
